I was thinking the same thing, Fuzz, when I saw Brian's pix here. Man! He's just about got a full A-T story laid out here--all he needs is some captions or word balloons to tell us what the guys are doing! A little play sand on the table top, some vegetation, a mystery to solve, a bad guy or nasty monster, and Brian, yer in bizniz, Buddy!
Thanks, guys! This is a full sheet of plywood. I followed the same directions as my son's train table, one sheet plywood on a framework of 1x6 boards.
The brown is a base coat. I have some "sienna" I'm going to dapple on the top, then add some dark green and other colors. I may add some sand and model RR landscaping materials.
I have a bunch of trees I bought at Michael's after Christmas. You may have seen them in some other pics. I need to remove the burlap covered base. I have some florist styrofoam that I'm going to weather, paint and stick in these trees.
Brian, I got a souvenir plastic palm tree from Fuzz (among other props) but they'll only work if you can layer your photos like he does since they're teany weany. I'm still working on the technique myself and failing miserably. But here's a tip: check out the "large" house plants at your favorite store that sells em. In nature, they're tropical and some resemble palms. I had a fig tree (Ficus) that was nearly dead except for some buds on the top. I cut off all the dead branches, watered it....and the the top filled in nicely......looks like a Joe-sized tree......I must take some pics and post em. ET
